State Sen. James Seward, an Otsego County Republican whose sprawling district includes four Ulster County towns, raised a whopping $135,954 in campaign funds in the last six months, more than twice as much as his nearest rival among the 11 state lawmakers representing Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties. Seward, who is chairman of the Senate Insurance Committee and received significant contributions from insurance companies, had more than $370,000 on hand as of Jan. 11 after that torrent of fundraising.
