Man hurt when pickup truck hits tree in Marbletown

The Ulster County Sheriff's Office reported that around 7 a.m. Tuesday Joseph M. Utter, 20, of Cottekill, was driving his Dodge Ram pickup truck south on Lucas Avenue when the crash happened. Utter was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the High Falls Fire Department and emergency medical service personnel.

State prison sentence for man who led police on chase in stolen car

Brandon Rifenburg was given the maximum sentence of 1 1/3 to 4 years in state prison by an Ulster County judge Monday after pleading guilty to drunkenly stealing a car last April and leading police on a high-speed chase that ended with him being shot by a sheriff's deputy. Rifenburg says on April 15 last year he left his dad's house in Boiceville and stole a car, but was spotted by police and sped off, hitting up to 70 miles and hour.
