Troopers arrest man for counterfeit bills

Troopers arrested Davey Sanchez, 35, for attempting to use forged bills of smaller currency at a gas station in the Town of New Paltz. Sanchez was charged with possession of a forged instrument in the first degree, and he was sent to Ulster County Jail after he couldn't pay $5,000 bail.

The former clerk of the town of Rosendale justice court was able to make off with nearly $6,000 in cash from bail collections without detection, according to an audit by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. The clerk, Trudy Harper, was arrested in June and charged by Ulster County District Attorney D. Holley Carnright with third degree grand larceny, a class D felony.

Federal Funding Announced for Water and Waste Upgrades

U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced a grant of $1,973,000 and a loan of $1,873,000 for the Town of Wawarsing in Ulster County. The federal funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program and will be used to restore water storage tanks, replace the treatment facility at the 400,000 gallon tank, and replace other aged and undersized water mains that are not up to New York State's sanitary code standards.

Catholic churches, parishioners face new era
