Energy executive R. Abel Garraghan, president of one of the biggest heating oil distribution companies in the region, HeritagEnergy Inc. in Kingston, has died, according to the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc. In 2003, the Times Herald-Record named Garraghan one of the 36 most powerful people in the mid-Hudson, noting his involvement in a bevy of civic pursuits, knack for serious discussion and his overall regional influence. He served as chairman of the Board of Trustees for Mount Saint Mary College, a director of HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley, and a member of the Kingston Waterfront Revitalization Commission and Ulster County Development Corporation.
