Thruway checkpoint leads to man being charged with rape of 14-year-old passenger, police say

During a DWI checkpoint on Interstate 87, state police arrested a 21-year-old man who raped his 14-year-old passenger, police said. Troopers conducting the checkpoint in Clarkstown, Rockland County Friday night spotted a vehicle with an equipment violation and stopped the driver, Ronald P. McCarthy of Wawarsing, Ulster County.
