Psych expert: Put accused murderer Carpino on trial

A psychiatrist testified Friday that he thinks Mark Carpino, accused of bludgeoning his mother to death with a hammer, is competent enough to stand trial and understand his own defense. Forensic psychiatrist Kevin Smith examined Carpino in August and was called by the Ulster County District Attorney's Office as an expert witness.
