More than 100 fire personnel from state environmental agencies, four EMS agencies and 17 Ulster and Dutchess County fire departments are working to bring the flames under control. Part of the emergency workers' efforts includes establishing a fire line, a gap in vegetation around the perimeter of the fire area that acts as a barrier to slow or stop the progress of the brush fire.
