Former Kingston Republican committee chairman John Benkert, 52, was sentenced to 60 days in Ulster County Jail with 5 years probation for bilking investors in a bogus business scheme. Ulster County Court Judge Anthony McGinty, who delivered the sentence on Tuesday, also ordered Benkert to pay $224,000 in restitution, which is to be distributed between six victims.
