Another Hudson Valley locality readies challenge to Thruway review of oil pipeline project

Kingston city lawmakers are poised to reject a bid by the state Thruway Authority to take control of the environmental review of a controversial crude oil pipeline that would use part of the state Thruway to transport oil from Albany to New Jersey. On Tuesday, the City Council's Public Safety Committee voted to recommend that measure, which will now go before the Common Council on Dec. 1. Mirroring an earlier vote by lawmakers in New Paltz, Ulster County, the Kingston committee voted that the environmental review for the Pilgrim pipeline should be controlled by the state Department of Environmental Conservation , rather than the Thruway Authority.
