Gabe Chapin, fire manager with The Nature Conservancy says the burn is part of a larger plan to reduce excess debris from the forest floor that can fuel larger wildfires. That plan was drafted after the 2008 Overlook fire burned 3,100 acres of Minnewaska State Park Preserve and private lands.
