Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney said Thursday that the 14 recent dam breaks and major flooding in South Carolina highlight the importance of a bill he introduced in May that would authorize up to $800 million in federal funding over five years for grants to repair publicly-owned dams that have been deemed deficient. "We should not wait for tragedy to strike," Maloney, a Cold Spring Democrat who serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said during a conference call with reporters.
