Fire chairman stole from district

The chairman of the Wallkill Fire District's Board of Commissioners stole nearly $240,000 from the fire district to fund his lavish lifestyle, law enforcement authorities charged Monday. The arrest and arraignment of 38-year-old Michael Denardo of Wallkill was announced by Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright's office in Kingston and State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.  Denardo allegedly convinced a fellow board member into co-signing blank checks, which he wrote out to his wife and then cashed for personal use.
